Abstract:
The objective of this study is to describe whether or not cooperative script
method is effective in teaching speaking skill at the seventh grade students of
SMP N 19 Purworejo in the academic year 2015/2016.
The populations of this study are the seventh grade students of SMP N 19
Purworejo in the academic year 2015/2016. The number of the students are 224
students. In this research the researcher uses experimental research. She uses
purposive sampling in taking the sample. The researcher takes 32 students of class
VII E as the sample of her research. The researcher uses descriptive text to test the
students. The research itself, and test as part of it, conducted from Monday, 18
April 2016 to Saturday, 30 April 2016. The researcher analyzed the data finding
by using SPSS 16.0.
The research result shows that teaching speaking using cooperative script
method is effective. Since the result is proved by the normality test is higher than
0.05, they are 0.239 and 0.141. The t-test value which is -8.138 at the significant
level 0.00. It means that there is significant different between post test and pre test
because the value is lower than 0.05. Based on the value for n=62 and the
significance level is 5%, the value of t-table is -2.000. The computation shows
that t-value is lower than t-table that is (-8.138 < -2.000). It means that the
alternative hypothesis is accepted.The mean of post test is 68.28. It can be seen
that the students speaking skill belongs to good category. They have a good result
on their speaking test. It can be concluded that the hypothesis which says “The use
of Cooperative Script method is effective in Students’ Speaking Skill at the
Seventh grade students of SMP N 19 Purworejo in the academic year 2015/2016”
is accepted.
