dc.description.abstract This study focuses on politeness strategies found in The Street Lawyer novel using Brown and Levinson’s theory. This research states the objectives of the study as follows; discover the politeness strategies in The Street Lawyer novel and the way to apply the politeness in John Grisham’s novel in Language Teaching. This research is conducted using descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this research is The Street Lawyer novel and direct utterance. The data are the utterances of the characters in The Street Lawyer novel that contain the politeness strategies. The researcher classifies them into different strategies of politeness. Next are analyzing them and making general conclusion based on the theory. The result of the study shows that there are four kinds of politeness strategies used in The Street Lawyer novel. It is find 34 utterances of politeness strategies used in The Street Lawyer novel. The application politeness used The Street Lawyer novel applies in senior high school grade 2 in the second point. Students observe, question, explore, associate, and communicate to use polite expression to give advice, offer and response. Students should able to make conversation politely with the others. en_US
