dc.description.abstract English is one of language which used as International language. It hasimportant role in communication whether spoken and written. Writing is a part of language skill. Writing is very important in teaching and learning English. Writing becomes highest difficulties in studying English because it involves some language components (spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation). Because of the difficulties in writing descriptive text, the teacher have to prepare some media that are appropriate to students in learning descriptive text easily. In the classroom, game can help the students in teaching learning process because it can build students’ interest. In this case, the researcher intends to choose circle game to teach writing descriptive text. The objective of the study is to find out whether using Circle Game in teaching writing descriptive text is effective or not to the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Tambak in the academic year of 2015/2016. The research was being carried out at SMP N 1 Tambak from 14𝑡ℎ April to 25𝑡ℎ April 2016. It ispre-experimental design using “one-group pretest-posttest design”. In this research, the researcher takes the data from the seventh grade students as the sample of the research. The VIID as the sample consist of 30 students. Dealing with the research instruments of collecting the data, the researcher make some steps: (1) giving pre-test to the students (2) giving treatment to the students (3) giving post-test to the students. To analyze the data the researcher uses z-value. After collecting the data and analyzing the data, the researcher presents the result of the research. The result of mean score of the post-test is higher than the mean score pre-test (73.00>68.00). In addition, the result of z-value is 5.274. Then the researcher consults the critical value on the z-table using 5% (0.05) alpha level significance so the value of z-table is 1.96. It shows that z-value was higher than z-table (5.274 > 1.96). Therefore the hypothesis accepted. It means that using Circle Game in teaching writing descriptive text at the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Tambak in the academic year of 2015/2016 is effective. en_US
