dc.description.abstract This research focuses on reference strategy found in The Road Not Taken poem using Cruse’s theory. This research states the objectives of the study as follows; discover the Reference strategies in the poem The Road Not Taken and the way to apply the reference in Robert Frost’s Poem in Language Teaching. This research is conducted using descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this research is The Road Not Taken poem and it is validated through its direct utterance. The data are the utterances of the meaning in The Road Not Taken poem that contain the reference strategy. After obtaining the data, the researcher classifies them into different strategies of reference. The next are analyzing them and making general conclusion based on the theory. The result of the study shows that there are three kinds of reference strategy used in The Road Not Taken poem. It is find 22 or 62% data of definite reference and 2 or 5% data of indefinite reference and 11 or 32% data of generic reference. And the application reference uses the road not taken poems apply in senior high school grade two in the second point. Student observing, questioning, explore, associate, and written use reference to give advice, offer and response. The researcher hopes that this thesis can give inspiration to teach language teaching especially about reference. en_US
