AN ANALYSYS OF DEIXIS ON THE PROPHETS’ STORIES IN ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF HOLY QUR’AN IN SURA AL-ANBIYA AND ITS CONTRIBUTION IN TEACHING WRITING

Abstract

Language in a writing communication builds from sentences. Analyzing the sentences or utterancs can be approached through discourse analysis. The researcher is analyzing deixis in English translation of Surah Al-Anbiya that contain of Prophets’ Stries. Deixis is one of the domain parts of pragmatics. With this deictic expression, we can gain the meaning easily. There are five type’s theories proposed by Levinson, namely; person deixis, time deixis, place deixis, social deixis, and discourse deixis or textual deixis. There are two aims of this research. The first is to find out the kind of deixis are used in English translation of Holy Qur’an in surah Al-Anbiya ayah 41 until ayah 91. The second is to describe how teaching writing using the deixis that found in Holy Qur’an translation on The Prophets’ stories. In collecting the data, firstly, the researcher Finding English translation of Holy Qur’an in book store. Then, researcher search the material that suitable with deixis and Surah Al-Anbiya from internet. Then, identifying the stories in the ayahs which contains the deixis types suitable Levinson theory. Finally, the researcher finding the data from tha sources and arranges the data systematically in accordance with the problems of the study. In analyzing the dta, the researcher uses the steps to make the analysis easy and effective, the researcher codes the data. The steps of coding the data is easy by giving the number each data them giving abbreviation of the number each ayah. The result shows that The types of deixis on the Prophets’ stories in English translation of holy Qur’an in Surah Al-Anbiya are 142 kinds of deixis. Those are person, time, place, discourse, and social deixis. The researcher analyzes English translation of Holy Qur’an in surh Al-Anbiya ayah 41 until ayah 91. There are 125 person deixis found (88,02%), 2 time deixis found (1,40%), 4 place deixis found (2,81%), no discourse found (0%), and 12 social deixis (8,45%). The application of deixis on the Prophets’ stories in English translation of holy Qur’an in Surah Al-Anbiya in language teaching aims to help students in understanding writing leson. The researcher uses some clues by the deixis that found in contributing teaching writing in simple present tense material.
