THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BBC ONLINE RADIO TO IMPROVE THE STUDENTS’ LISTENING SKILL AT ENGLISH EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY OF PURWOREJO IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2013/2014

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to describe the implementation of BBC Online Radio in improving students‟ listening skill and to describe the improvement of students‟ listening skill through BBC Online Radio. This research was conducted at Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo in May 2014. This research is called classroom observation research. In this research, the researcher took 33 students of D Class in second semester of English Department ofMuhammadiyah University of Purworejo. The researcher observed the lecturer taught listening using „BBC Online Radio‟ as a media in the class. The researcher then analyzed the data. The method of research is qualitative research. The research calculate both manually and by using SPSS 17.0. Theresult of the mean score without using BBC is 57.52; meanwhile, the mean score after using BBC is 68.06. It means that the use of „BBC Online Radio‟was well implemented at second semester of English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo. Based on the result of the research finding, the researcherconcludes that a “BBC Online Radio” is well implemented and useful to improve students‟ listening skill.
