Abstract:
The objective of this research is to describe whether or not using picture
word inductive model is effective in teaching writing descriptive text at the
seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo in the academic year of
2015/2016.In this study, the researcher took class VII H which consists of
31 students as experimental group, and class VII G which consists of 31
students as control group.
The researcher uses purposive sampling to gain the data of the research
because the researcher took the sample of two classes to be observed in
collecting the data, the researcher uses test method. The researcher takes
essay writing. To analyze the data, the researcher uses descriptive analysis
and inferential analysis.
The result of the mean score of the post-test of experimental group is
higher than the mean score of post-test of control group (74.48>65.94). As
the fact, the mean score of pos-test of experimental group is 74.48 and the
category is good. The mean score of post-test of control group is 65.94 and
the category is sufficient. In addition, the result of t-value is 5.204. Then,
the researcher consults the critical value on the t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha
significance and the degree of freedom is 2.000. It shows that t-value is
higher than t-table (5.204>2.000).The sig. (2-tailed) is 0.00 and the
significance level is 0.05. It means that sig. (2-tailed< 0.05); there is
effectiveness picture word inductive model in teaching writing descriptive
text. Therefore, the hypothesis is accepted. It means that using picture word
inductive model (PWIM) in teaching writing at the seventh grade students
of SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016 is effective.
