Abstract:
This thesis is mainly aimed to analyze Javanese accent interference in
students’ English pronunciation (sound /g/). This thesis is qualitative research.
The aims of this study are to describe Javanese accent interference in students’
English pronunciation (sound /g/) and to describe its application in teaching
speaking at the fourth semester of English Education Program of Purworejo
Muhammadiyah University in the academic year of 2015/2016.
In collecting the data, the researcher uses documentation as an instrument.
This thesis uses descriptive qualitative as the research design. The subject of the
research is the fourth semester students of English Education Program of
Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. While in analyzing the data, there are five
steps used: the researcher categorized the students’ pronunciation which is
interfered and not interfered, described the inteference, interpreted the data,
calculated the percentage, and drewconclusion.
The result of this thesis shows that in pronouncing initial and middle
sound /g/ of Javanese and English words, 100% students are not interfered. While
in pronouncing final sound /g/ of Javanese and English words, the researcher
found 27% of the students are not interfered and 73% of the students are
interfered. Also, it can be applicated in teaching speaking, especially at the tenth
grade students of Senior High Shcool in the material favorite song. Teacher can
give explanation about how to pronounce sound /g/ correctly in the song lyrics.
