dc.description.abstract Illocutionary act has become an important thing in studying language. When people have conversation, sometimes they misinterpret the meaning. Therefore, they do inappropriate responses. The objectives of this study are (1) to explain the types of illocutionary acts found in signs at Ocean Dream Samudra and (2) to describe the application of using signs found at Ocean Dream Samudra in teaching speaking. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative because this study aims to analyze the types of illocutionary acts. Besides, the form of data is in the word form rather than number. The researcher is conducted the research at Ocean Dream Samudra. The data are collected through camera by taking the pictures of the signs there. The result of this research shows that there are three types of illocutionary acts found at Ocean Dream Samudra. They are 95 sentences of assertives (81, 19%), 17 sentences of directives (14, 52%), and 5 sentences of expressives (4, 27%). There are no types of commisives and declarations because Ocean Dream Samudra is a public recreational area. The application of analyzing signs found in Ocean Dream Samudra can be implemented at the eleventh grade students of Senior High School in the material using transactional meaning in the text conversation in the context of daily activity. It is about expressing warning. The researcher hopes this thesis will enrich knowledge of pragmatics, especially illocutionary acts for the teachers and students who should be able to understand illocutionary act found in signs at public places and use it for the material in the classroom. en_US
