The Syntactical Analysis of Sentence Types in Pitch Perfect 2 Movie and Its Application in Teaching Grammar at the Eleventh Grade of Vocational High School

Abstract

A basic rule of syntax is the ways words and phrases are arranged to form sentences. By sentence types, many people can make a sentences based on pattern in English grammar. So, many people can make a sentence correctly. The purpose of this research was to find sentence types that occurred in Pitch Perfect 2 movie, which later would be applied in teaching grammar. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the conversation in show to find the movie occurred. They are declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamative. Finally the researcher applied her research into teaching learning activity especially in teaching grammar. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that there are 282 sentences occurred during the show. From 282 data which are taken by the researcher, 153declarative sentences or about 54.35%from the total sentence types that occurred during the show. Besides that, there are only 78 interrogative sentences or about 27.65%,there are 47imperative sentences or about 16.67% and there are 4 exclamative sentences or about 1.43% from the total sentence types.The dominant in this movie is declarative sentences because in this movie, all characters just make a statement. Teacher can use Pitch Perfect 2 movie to show the example of some expression to makelesson interesting and enjoyable. The application of sentence types in Pitch Perfect 2 movie using imperative sentences in teaching grammar.
