Abstract:
The aim of this study was to find out the empirical evidence about the
effectiveness of dictogloss technique towards students narrative writing at the
eighth grade of SMP N 6 Purworejo in the academic year 2015/2016.
The method of this study was quantitative method. This study used quasi
experimental design with pre-test and post-test design approach. The population
of this study were 191 students at eighth grade of SMP N 6 Purworejo in the
academic year 2015/2016. By using purposive sampling, the researcher took two
classes as the samples of this study. The samples of this study were VIII C as
experimental class which was taught by dictogloss technique and VIII D as
control class which was taught without dictogloss technique. Both classes is
consist of 32 students. The researcher gave pre-tests to both classes before giving
treatment and gave post-tests after giving treatment. The instrument used in this
study was writing test in which the students were asked to write a narrative text
for pre-test and post-test.
The result of the mean score of the post-test of experimental group is
higher than the mean score of post-test of control group (75.469>65.750). As the
fact, the mean score of pos-test of experimental group is 75.469 and the category
is good. The mean score of post-test of control group is 65.750 and the category is
sufficient. In addition, the result of t-value is 6.774. Then, the researcher consults
the critical value on the t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha significance and the degree
of freedom is 2.000. The Sig (2-tailed) is 0.00 and the significance level is 0.05. It
means that Sig (2-tailed) <0.05. Therefore, the hypothesis is accepted. It can be
concluded that using dictogloss technique is effective for teaching writing at the
eighth grade of SMP Negeri 6 Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016.
