dc.description.abstract Reading a story gives us a pleasure, because we will get enjoyment from reading it. We can learn about the vocabulary, grammar, structure of the sentences and the culture of the story we are reading. We can get the moral values from reading the story. It will be very useful for us in making our behavior and our attitude in real life. This thesis entitled The analysis of Moral Values Found in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Short Story“The Golden Touch” and Its Application in English Language Teaching. The purpose of this thesis is to find out and analyze the moral values shown in the story “ The Golden Touch “ and the application in English Language Teaching. The object of this study is a story entitled “ The Golden Touch “. The study is classified as a qualitative research. So, the technique of gathering data includes reading story, identifying, analyzing, and giving comment on the content of the story . The researcher describes the intrinsic elements, e.g plot, setting, characters and find out the moral values of the story. The researcher uses the library to have some references in making this thesis. It includes books, articles, citation and other thesis with the same theme. The result of the research showed that the main character was King Midas, and the supporting character were Marygold and The Stranger. There are some moral values found in this story. There are the good, the noble, richness of experiences and purity. For the positive moral found moral values that represent love, care, responsibility, wise, regretful, self-confidence. For negative moral values found arrogant, greedy, gripe and avaricious. The researcher hopes that the teacher and the students can learn English by reading this short story. From the moral teaching,the short story can be used as a guide to a better understanding in real situation en_US
