dc.description.abstract The objectives of this research are (1) to describe self-efficacy at the fourth semester students English Education Program of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the academic year of 2015/2016, (2) to reveal speaking ability at the fourth semester students English Education Program of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the academic year of 2015/2016, (3) to find out whether there is any positive and significant correlation between selfefficacy and speaking ability at the fourth semester students English Education Program of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the academic year of 2015/2016. This study belongs to correlational design. The researcher take 39 students among the population 124 at the fourth semester students English Education Program of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the academic year of 2015/2016 as sample of this research.The researcher uses questionnaire and documentation as the instruments. Dealing with the research instrument of collecting the data, the researcher makes some steps: (1) preparing the research instrument, (2) giving the questionnaire to the students, (3) collecting the the data of their result of questionnaire, (4) doing documentation for asking the result of their mid term test. In getting the data, the researcher analyzed the data by using descriptive statistics analysis (mean, median, mode, range, variance, SD) and inferential analysis (test of normality, test of linearity, test of hypothesis). The researcher calculates both manually and using SPSS version 16.0. Based on the computation, the researcher find three things. First, the mean of students’ self-efficacy is 74.22 and it is categorized as high. Second, the mean of students’ speaking ability is 74.91 and it is categorized as high too. Third, there is a positive and significance correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their speaking ability, the value of r is 0.846>0.329. The finding shown above can be proved from the number of samples (N=39) and the level of significance (5%), the result of the computation done both manually and by SPSS is 0.846. Based on the vaalue of r product moment that is 0.846>0.329 and it is categorized as a very high correlation. It means that there is very high correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their speaking ability. en_US
