Abstract:
This study describes Pronominal Anaphora constructed in textbook Look
Ahead 2. Anaphora is branch of linguistic. Anaphora included the nature of English.
The term of anaphora is used to define an expression that used as a reference to
another expression or entity in the discourse.
Pronominal anaphora is one of the types of anaphora. Pronominal
anaphora is the most common type in which a referent is referred by a pronoun. This
study uses textbook Look Ahead 2 for the eleventh grade students of senior high
school as the object. The objective of this study is to find out the anaphoric word and
the antecedent in the sentences of texts Look Ahead 2 for the eleventh grade students
of senior high school. This study uses descriptive qualitative method to answer the
statement of the problem. The data are collected from textbook Look Ahead 2 for the
eleventh grade students of senior high school. There are five kinds of text on Look
Ahead 2, as follows; report text, narrative text, analytical exposition, spoof and
hortatory exposition.
The result of this study shows that pronominal anaphora is dominantly
used in narrative text 198 or 67%, then it is followed by report text 38 or 13%,
hortatory exposition 25 or 9%, spoof 20 or 7% and analytical exposition 13 or 4%.
Total of pronominal anaphora is 624. Finally, this study suggests that the next
researcher could investigate the study of anaphora deeply in different object, context
or different point of view and analyze more specific.
