English has been taught in every level of school in Indonesia as a foreign
language from kindergarten until university level. Writing is one of the four
language skills that is very important to learn. Writing as a process to get product is
influenced by some elements such as vocabularies, grammar, organization, content,
and mechanic.
The objective of this study was to find out whether using wholesome
scattering game effective or not in teaching descriptive text at the tenth grade
students of SMK Batik Sakti 1 Kebumen in the academic year 2015/2016. The
research was being carried out at SMK Batik Sakti 1 Kebumen from 11th April to
26th April 2016.
It was an Experimental Research. In this research, the researcher used
purposive sampling in taking the sample because of the limitation of time. Here,
the researcher took the data from the tenth grade students TN 1 and TN 2 as the
sample of the research. The class TN 1 was as an experimental group and class
TN 2 was as control group. The experimental group consisted of 28 students and
control group consisted of 28 students. In collecting the data, the researcher uses
test as the instrument. Dealing with the research instrument of collecting the data,
the researcher made some step: (1) giving pre-test both of the groups (2) giving
treatment to the experimental group (3) giving explanation of the material to the
control group conventionally (4) giving post-test both of the groups. To analyze
the data, the researcher used t-test. After collecting the data and analyzing them,
the researcher presented the result of the research.
The result of the mean score of post test of experimental group was higher
than the mean score of post test of control group (75.79>66.57). In addition, the
result of t-value was 4.506. Then, the researcher consulted the critical value on the
t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha level significance and the degree of freedom was
2.000. It shows that t-value was higher than t-table (5.506>2.000). Therefore, the
hypothesis is accepted. It means that using wholesome scattering game in teaching
descriptive text towards the students’ achievement in their writing skill at the
tenth grade students of SMK Batik Sakti 1 Kebumen in the academic year of
2015/2016 is effective. |
