Abstract:
The objectives of this thesis were to know the students’ listening ability at the
tenth grade of SMK Batik Sakti 1 Kebumen in the academic year of 2013/2014, to
know the students’ speaking ability at the tenth grade of SMK Batik Sakti 1 Kebumen
in the academic year of 2013/2014, and to find out whether or not there was a positive
and significant correlation between students’ listening skill and their speaking skill at
the tenth grade of SMK Batik Sakti 1 Kebumen in the academic year of 2013/2014.
This research belonged to correlation study. The respondent was 72 students
at the tenth grade of SMK Batik Sakti 1 Kebumen in the academic year of 2013/2014.
They were taken by using random sampling. In collecting data, the researcher used
tests. The test was used to know the result of listening skill and speaking skill. This
method of research was quantitative research.
The mean score of students’ listening skill was 34.89, and the mean score of
students’ speaking skill was 45.56. The result of this research shows that the
correlation between students’ listening skill and their speaking skill at the tenth grade
of SMK Batik Sakti 1 Kebumen in the academic year of 2013/2014 is medium. It is
proven from the result of correlation coefficient product moment. It shows that r
obtained was 0.440, it was range between 0.40 – 0.599 in the level of medium
correlation.
