dc.description.abstract The aim of the study is to find out whether or not realia as media is effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Purworejo in the academic year 2013/2014. The study was conducted of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Purworejo. It consisted of 64 students which divided into two classes. To get the data, the researcher used test as an instrument (pretest and post test). The tests were multiple choices types (consisting of 20 items). To analyze the data, the researcher used t-test. After collecting the data and analyzing them, the researcher presents the result of the research. The result of the mean score of post test of experimental group is higher than the mean score of post test of control group (74.69>67.5). In addition, the result of t-value is 4.228. Then, the researcher consults the critical value on the t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha level significance and the degree of freedom is 2.000. It shows that t-value is higher than t- table (4.228>2.000). It means that realia in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri Purworejo in the academic year 2013/2014 is effective. The results of learning vocabulary using realia are the students can be more participate and it is useful to improve their vocabulary because it is memorable and easy to do for Junior High School. en_US
