AN ANALYSIS OF PARTS OF SPEECH IN THE NARRATIVE TEXT OF SHORT STORY LILY AND THE LION BY BROTHERS GRIMM AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

This final project discusses about an analysis of parts of speech in the short story Lily and the Lion by Brothers Grimm. Parts of speech mean the class of words which is used to organise or classify words according to how they are used in a sentence. The aims of this research are to find out the kinds of parts of speech in the short story Lily and the Lion and its application in the English language teaching. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research, and as the object of this research is short story Lily and the Lion by Brothers Grimm and it is supported by using many sources including books and internet. In analysing the data, the reseacher reads the short story, collects the data, and analyses the data by identifying and classifying the kinds of parts of speech. The researcher finds out there are eight kinds of parts of speech from the data analysis. Those are noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection. The most dominant of parts of speech used in the short story Lily and the Lion is verb which contains 400 (21%) from 1905 words of parts of speech. The least of parts of speech is interjection which contains only 1 (0.1%) from 1905 words of parts of speech. The researcher uses parts of speech found in the short story Lily and the Lion in teaching narrative text.
