Abstract:
important role for communication in making relationship with others from
different countries, including Indonesia. English is also as a subject learned school
in Indonesia which has four basic skills. They are reading, speaking, writing, and
listening. Among the four English skills, Reading is one of the four language
skills that are very important in learning English. Reading is a kind of activity to
comprehend the writer’s ideas or the way the writer communicates with readers
by way of the written or printed words. Teaching reading especially in teaching
reading narrative text can use many kinds of methods applied by the teacher. One
of the teaching methods is task-based teaching.
The aim of this research is to know whether team accelerated instruction (
TBT ) method is effective or not in teaching reading narrative text on the eighth
grade students of SMP N 1 Kajoran in the academic year 2013/2014. In this
research, the researcher took two classes as the sample. One class was
experimental group and other as control group. Each class consists of 30 students.
So, the number of sample was 60 students. While the instrument that was used in
this thesis, was test. In including the data, the give treatment for experimental
group using task-based teaching method and common way for control group.
After getting enough data, the researcher calculated the data using t-test polledvariance.
Based on the previous computation, the mean score of experimental group
was 69.17 and the mean control group was 72.50 to see wether the hypothesis
was accepted or rejected, the t-value was consulted to the t-table at the 0.05
significance level. It shows that the t-table was 2.000 and the t-value was 2.543It
means that t-value was higher than t-table, that was 2.543> 2.000. So, it can be
concluded that the use of Task-Baesd Teaching in Teaching Reading Narrative
Text at the Eighth Grade of SMP N 1 Kajoran Academic Year 2013/2014 is
effective.
