A CORRELATION STUDY BETWEEN STUDENTS’ TOEIC TEST SCORE AND THEIR TOEFL TEST SCORE IN ENGLISH DEPARTMENT AT EIGTHTH SEMESTER THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2013/2014

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the correlation TOEIC test score and TOEFL test score students in eigthth semester University Muhammadiyah of Purworejo in the academic year 2013/2014. Besides, the other aim of this research is to find out how far students’ skill in TOEIC and TOEFL test in University Muhammadiyah of Purworejo. This research is classified as an descriptive quantitative research. Moreover, this research is conducted by using quantitative technique in processing the data and getting the result. Therefore, the type of this research is descriptive quantitative research. In this research, the researcher took 260 students which are athe eigthth semester students of University Muhammadiyah of Purworejo in Academic year 2013/2014. The researcher conducted correlation, normality, linearity and hypothesis. The researcher use TOEIC and TOEFL Test score to find out the correlation. The result of this research shows that the amount of samples (N=260) and the level of significance is 5%, the correlation is 0.52. Based on the value in the t-table for N=260 and the significance level = 5%, the value of product moment (rt) is 0.138. The computation shows that r obtained is higher than r table (ro > rt) that is 0.52 > 0.138, and distribution of the data is abnormal.
