Abstract:
Everyone tends to make error in the process of language learning
and use, especially for FL learners. Error Analysis is one of the major
topics in the field of second language acquisition research. Errors are an
integral part of language learning. The learner of English as a second
language is unaware of the existence of the particular system or rule in
English language. The learner’s errors have long been interested for
second and foreign language researchers.
This research is qualitative research. This research is aimed to
analyze errors and to know the cause of errors in writing recount text made
by the tenth grade students of SMA N 3 Purworejo in the academic year of
2015/2016. The object of this study is the tenth grade students of SMA N
3 Purworejo. The sample is 31 students of the tenth grade students. The
data of this study is taken from test and questioner. In collecting data, the
test is used to get the data about the ability of the students in writing
recount text, and the questioner method to obtain the causes of students’
error in writing recount text. While, in analyzing data, error analysis was
used in which there are four steps: identifying errors, describing errors,
explaining errors, and error evaluation.
The result shows that there are 345 student’s errors consist of overgeneralization
error (4 or 1%), omission (111 or 30%), transfer error (40 or
11%), global error (49 or 14%), and local error (161 or 44%). Based on the
total result types of errors, the researcher finds that the causes of errors are
carelessness (276 or 76%), translation (49 or 13%), and first language
interference (40 or 11%). This research is hoped can help readers
especially teachers to recognize such causes easily and quickly and be able
both to contribute to learners' errors linguistic behavior and to deal with
their errors effectively and efficiently.
