Abstract:
English is one of language important to communicate with others. English
is included in Indonesian education from elementary school until university. As a
part of language, reading must be taught in English classes of junior high school
students compare with other skill; listening, speaking and writing.Teaching
reading especially to improve reading comprehension can use many kinds of
strategy applied by teacher. One of the teaching methods that can be used of
reading is Question Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy.
The objective of this research is to find out whether QAR strategy is
effective or not to improve students’ reading comprehension.The researcher took
37 students as the sample. Then, the researcher gave pre-test and post-test. The
researcher taught reading narrative text by using QARstrategy at the eighth grade
of MTs Al-Ikhlas Tanuraksan Kebumen in the academic year 2015/2016. The
researcher then statistically the data by using t-test polled variance.
After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that teaching narrative
text using QAR strategy is effective to improve student’s reading comprehension.
As a fact, the result of t-value is-7, 818. Based on the shows that t-value is higher
than t-table that is -7, 818 > -2,03. Another fact shows that the mean score of posttest
is higher than the mean score of pre-test before using QAR strategy in reading
comprehension, that is (71,95 > 64, 27). Based on the result of this study the
researcher suggests the teacher apply QAR strategy in teaching reading
comprehension to get the higher students achievement.
