Abstract:
The purpose of this research are to describe the level of students’ ability in
writing after taught by CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) method and to
find out whether using CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) method is
effective or not in teaching students to write descriptive text at tenth grade
students of SMA N 1 Petanahan in the academic year of 2013/2014.
In this research the researcher took 50 students as the sample. The
researcher took X Sos 2 as the experimental group which consist of 25 students.
Meanwhile, the researcher took X Sos 3 as the control group which consist of 25
students. The researcher gave pre-test and post-test to both classes. The researcher
taught descriptive text using CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) method to
the experimental group and common way to the control group. The researcher
then statically analyzed the data using t-test.
After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that teaching descriptive
text using CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) method is effective. As the
fact, the result of t-value was 3.826. Based on the 0.05 significance level, the
value of t-table was 2.021, the computation showed that t-value was higher t-table,
which was 3.826>2.021. The effectiveness of CTL (Contextual Teaching and
Learning) method also can be seen from score gained by control group and
experimental group. The mean score of experimental group was 75.00 and it was
belong to good category. While the control group was 69.40 and it was belong to
good category. It can be concluded the score from experimental group was higher
than control group. Based on the result of t-test findings, it can be reference for
teachers to use CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) method in teaching
writing especially descriptive text in order to get the higher students achievement.
So, it can be stated that the hypothesis “the use of CTL (Contextual Teaching and
Learning) method in teaching students to write descriptive text at tenth grade
students of SMA N 1 Petanahan in the academic year of 2013/2014 is effective” is
accepted.
