Abstract:
The objective of this research is to know the effectiveness of collaborative
learning in teaching speaking at the tenth grade of MAN Purworejo in the
academic year 2015/2016. This research is an experimental research. The data
was collected through speaking test. The experiment was holding through pre-test
and post-test. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of
MAN Purworejo. The researcher took 64 students which are divided into control
(X Science 3, 32 students) and experimental group (X Social 3, 32 students). The
experimental group was taught by using collaborative learning, while the control
group was taught by using conventional method. The result of this research shows
that using Collaborative Learning is effective in teaching speaking at the tenth
grade of MAN Purworejo in the academic year 2015/2016, since it was found that
the result of t-value is 2.38 based on 0.05 significance level, and the value of tinvers
is 2.000. Therefore, the computation shows that t-value is higher than tinvers
that is 2.38>2.000.
