Abstract:
This study was aimed at knowing the level of students’ writing skill and knowing wether word wall is effective or not to improve students’ writing skill among the eighth grade of SMP N 5 Kebumen in the academic year of 2013/2014.
The subject of the study were the eighth grade of SMP N 5 Kebumen in the academic year of 2013/2014. In this research, the wrtiter used purposive sampling in taking the sample because of limitation of time the writer took 64 students of VIII C and VIII E as sample: they are control group and experimental group. The writer used essay of test. The test conducted on Wednesday, may 28th 2014 until Saturday, May 31th 2014 . The writer analized the data by using t-test computation.
The mean of control group is 76.38 and the standard deviation of it is 4.44. The mean is included in the interval of 66 to 79. It means that the students of experimental group at the eighth grade of SMP N 5 Kebumen have good result on their writing. The mean of experimental group is 80.44 and the standard deviation of it is 4.26. The mean is included in the interval of 80 to 100. It means that the students of experimental group at the the eighth grade of SMP N 5 Kebumen have excellent result on their writing . The research result shows that teaching writing using word wall is effective. Since the result was proved by the result of t-value. The t-value was 3.73. Based on the 0.05 sinificantlevel, the value of t-table is 2.000. the computation shows that the t-value was lower than t-table that was 3.73>2.000.
