Abstract:
This research is aimed to investigate: (1) the students’ personality of the fourth semester English Education Program of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the academic year 2015/2016 (2) the students’ English discussion ability score of the fourth semester English Education Program of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the academic year 2015/2016 and (3) the influence of students’ personality on their English discussion ability of the fourth semester English Education Program of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the academic year 2015/2016.
The type of this research is quantitative research. The research was conducted on 18th Macrh until 4th May. The population is the fourth semester English Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo in the academic year 2015/2016 which consists of 125 students. The sample of this research is 34 students by applying purposive sampling to collect the sample. The technique of collecting data used the questionnaire of personality typing and the documentation of students’ English discussion ability by the teacher. The data is analyzed by using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis.
The results of this research are: (1) the mean of students’ personality questionnaire score is 61.76 (2) the mean score for students’ extrovert personality is 64.13 (3) the mean score for students’ introvert personality is 48 (4) the mean of students’ English discussion ability is 74.76. The t-test between students’ extrovert and introvert personality toward their English discussion ability shows significant difference on 0.000<0.05. The result of t-test revealed that there is statistically significant difference between the personality types and their English discussion ability. It means that there is significant influence of students’ personality on their English discussion ability of the fourth semester English Education Program of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University in the academic year 2015/2016.
