Abstract:
The researcher conducts a quantitative research with an experimental
design. The aim of the research is to find out whether using Pelmanism game is
effective or not in teaching reading descriptive text at the seventh grade of SMP
Negeri 1 Sadang in academic year of 2015/2016.
The population of this research is the seventh grade students of SMP
Negeri 1 Sadang in the academic year of 2015/2016. Population of this research is
136 students. Sample of this research is two classes which are divided into
Experimental group (VII A, 34 students) and Control group (VII B, 34 students).
The sampling technique which is used is a purposive sampling. To collect the
data, the researcher used tests as the instrument. There are pre-test and post-test.
Pre-test is conducted before the researcher gives a treatment to the students. Posttest
is conducted after the researcher gives a treatment to the students. The type of
the tests is a multiple choice tests.
After collecting the data, the result shows that the mean score of post test
of experimental group is higher than the mean score of post test of control group
(77.65>72.35). In addition, the result of t-value is 2.86. Then the researcher
consults the critical valueon the t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha level significance
and the degree of freedom is 2.000. it shows that t-value is higher than t-table (
2.86>2.000). It means that using pelmanism game in teaching reading descriptive
text at the seventh grade of SMP N 1 Sadang in the academic year of 2015/2016 is
effective.
