Abstract:
The objective of the study is to find out whether Word Web to improve
students’ vocabulary at the eighth grade students of SMP N 5 KEBUMEN. The
researcher think that the factor that affects the improving vocabulary using word
web is technique of teaching. This technique is developed to increase the students
to think actively. Word web illustrates how key words or concepts are related to
one another through graphic representations. The researcher believes that this
technique is effective to improve the students’ vocabulary.
The researcher used experimental research. The sample of this study is
one class. It is class D that consists of 32 students. The students were given pretest
and post-test.
After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that using word web
is effective. As the fact, the result of t-value is 2.59 based on the 0.05 significant
level, the value of t-table is 2.000. The result of computation shows that t-value is
higher than t-table , that is (2.59 >2.000). So, it can be stated that the hypothesis “

of SMP N 5 Kebumen in the academic year 2013/ 2014 is effective” is accepted.
