Abstract:
The objective of this study was to find out whether using short video clips for teaching writing descriptive text is effective or not at the tenth grade of MAN Kebumen 1 in the academic year of 2015/2016.
The subject of the study was the tenth grade students of MAN Kebumen 1 in the academic year of 2015/2016. In this research, the researcher used purposive sampling in taking the sample because of the limitation of time. In this research, the researcher took 23 students of X MIA 1 and 23 students of X MIA 2 as a sample; they are experimental group and control group. The writer used pre-test and post-test. The researcher taught writing using video clips as a treatment to the experimental group. The test was conducted on April 20th 2016 until May 19th 2016. Statistically, the researcher analyzed the data by using t-test computation. The mean of experimental group (77.35) was included into interval 66-79. It means that students of experimental group have good result on writing skill. The mean of control group (65.30) was included into interval 56-65.
The research finding showed that the mean of experimental group 77.35, it means that the students have a good category in their writing skill. The mean of control group 65.30 was included into sufficient category. The hypothesis showed that the use of video clip for teaching writing descriptive text at the tenth grade of MAN Kebumen 1 in the academic year of 2015/2016 is effective. It was found that the result of t-value is 6.316. Based on the 0.05 significance higher than t-table (6.316>2.000). Based on the result, it means that the hypothesis is accepted. The research findings indicated that the students are interested in learning English writing using Video Clips.
