English as an international language has an important role. Vocabulary is
the key of a language and one of aspects in learning English. Students always find
some difficulties in the process of learning vocabulary. Therefore, the teacher
should be creative used a good way for teaching learning process. One of the good
ways is by using semantic feature analysis to teaching method in order that they
can learn vocabulary easily and comfortably.
The objectives of this research were (1), to describe the students’ vocabulary
mastery at the seventh grade of MTs Negeri Nusawungu in the academic year of
2013/2014, (2) to know whether SFA is effective or not to increase the students’
vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade students of MTs Negeri Nusawungu in
the academic year of 20113/2014.
In this research, the researcher took 59 students of the seventh grade as the
sample. The researcher conducted pre-test and post-test. The researcher used SFA
to teach vocabulary, statistically, the researcher analyzed the data by using t-test.
The result of this research showed the mean score of experimental group
was 82.59 which is very good categorize. The mean score of control group was
70.17 which is good categorize. It means that using SFA in improving students’
vocabulary mastery was effective. It was found that the result of t-value was 5.72
based on the 0.05 significance level, the value of t-table was 2.000. The
computation shows that t-value is higher that t-table, that was 5.72>2.000. The
post-test of English vocabulary mastery was higher than pre-test of English
vocabulary. Based on the result finding, it could be shown SFA gives a positive
contribution towards the students’ vocabulary mastery. |
