Abstract:
Nowadays, many people learn the International languages. One of them is
English. In learning English, there are four main skills that consist of listening,
speaking, reading, and writing. Writing is an essential skill that becomes complex
skill to master for the learners because writing is a productive skill that deals with
the way to generate and organize the ideas. Teaching writing especially in recount
text can use many kinds of technique. One of the teaching technique is by using
clustering technique.
It was an Experimental Research. In this research, the researcher used
purposive sampling in taking the sample. The aim of this research is to know
whether using clustering technique is effective or not in teaching writing recount
text at the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Pejagoan in the Academic Year of 2015/2016.
In this research, the researcher took two classes as the sample. One class is
experimental group and other as control group. Each class consists of 36 students.
So, the number of sample is 72 students. while the instrument that is uses in this
thesis is test. In collecting the data, the researcher uses pre-test and post-test.
Before conducting post-test, the researcher give treatment for experimental group
using clustering technique and common way for control group. After getting
enough data, the researcher calculated the data using t-test polled- variance.
Based on the previous computation, the mean score of experimental group
is 76,33 and the mean of control group is 67,53. To see whether the hypothesis is
accepted or rejected, the t-value is consulted to the t-table at the 0,05 significance
level. It shows that the t-table is 1.994 and the t-value is 7.744. It means that tvalue
is higher than t-table, that is 7.744 > 1.994. So, it can be concluded that the
use of clustering technique in teaching writing recount text at the tenth grade of
SMA N 1 Pejagoan in the academic year of 2015/2016 is effective.
