dc.description.abstract This research is aimed to to describe the hyperbolic expressions found in song lyrics of Westlife’s album The Love Songs and todescribe the application of hyperbolic expressions found in song lyrics of Westlife’s album The Love Songs to teach vocabulary at senior high school. In this study, the researcher conducts a qualitative research withdescriptive qualitative research design. The researcher uses documentation technique to collect the data that are transcripts of the song lyrics of Westlife’s album The Love Songs. In collecting the data, firstly the researcher reads the song lyrics continually. Secondly, she tries to comprehend the content of each song lyric. Thirdly, she detects the song lyrics of Westlife’s album The Love Songs that contain hyperbolic expressions.Fourthly, she identifies and codes the hyperbolic expressions found on the song lyrics. While in analyzing the data, the researcher uses three steps of analyzing data, those are data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/ verification. The result of the research shows that from 16 (sixteen) lists of song lyrics, there are 11 (eleven) song lyrics of Westlife’s album The Love Songs that contain 38 (thirty eight) hyperbolic expressions. They are five hyperbolic expressions on Unbreakable, three hyperbolic expressions on Mandy, six hyperbolic expressions on Swear It Again, one hyperbolic expression in Fool Again, one hyperbolic expression on World of Our Own, two hyperbolic expressions on My Love, four hyperbolic expressions on What about Now, two hyperbolic expressions on I Wanna Grow Old with You, five hyperbolic expressions on Total Eclipse of the Heart, five hyperbolic expressions on Us Against the World, four hyperbolic expressions on You Raise Me Up, and one hyperbolic expression on When You’re Looking Like That. Furthermore, based on the senior high school syllabus, especially for students of Language Program, the finding of this research, the hyperbolic expressions found, can be applied in the tenth grade of senior high school. en_US
