dc.description.abstract Speaking is one of the four language skills that should be taught and learned. Speaking is one of two productive skills. Therefore, speaking is important.Many students are poor in speaking skill. If the teacher could take an appropriate technique in teaching speaking, it would help the students to learn effectively. One of teaching techniques that can be used in speaking activities is by using picture-guessing game. The objective of this research is to know whether using Picture-guessing Game Technique is effective or not for teaching speaking at the tenth grade students of SMA N 8 Purworejo in the Academic Year of 2015/2016. This research is quantitative research that uses an experimental method. There are two groups, Experimental group and Control Group used in this research. In this research the subject of research is the students Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 8 Purworejo in the Academic Year of 2015/2016. The researcher took 32 students from X-6 and 32 students from X-7 as sample from 224 students as population. Then researcher used purposive sampling in taking the sample because of the limitation of time. The instrument used in this thesis is test. The researcher used pre-test and post-test in getting the data. Before conducting post-test, the researcher used Picture-Guessing Game Technique to teach speaking in experimental class, while in control class by using traditional technique. Statistically,the researcher analyzed the data obtained by using t-test computation. The result of this research shows that the mean of Control group is 69.84. It means that the students of control group have sufficient category. The mean of experimental group is 75.69. The result of t-value is 3.674, based on the 0.05 significance level, the value of t-table is 2.039, the computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table (3.674>2.039). Based on the result, it means that the hypothesis “Ha” is accepted. The research findings indicate that the students are interested in learning English speaking by using picture-guessing game technique. en_US
