dc.description.abstract The aim of this research is to find out whether there is a significant effect of teaching vocabulary using secret message game to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. The researcher uses purposive sampling in taking the sample because of the limitation time. In this research, the researcher took 76 students of the seventh-grade students of MTs Khaudlul’ulum Penajung Bojongsari, Alian Kebumen in the Academic of Year 2013/2014 as the sample. The researcher used seventh A which consists of 38 students and seventh B which consists of 38 students. The researcher conducted pre-test and post-test. The researcher taught vocabulary using secret message game as a treatment. Statistically, the researcher analyzed the data by using t-test separated variance. The result of this research shows that there is significant effectiveness of teaching vocabulary using secret message game to improve students’ vocabulary mastery, since it was found that the result of t-value is 3.27. Based on the 0.05 significant level, the value of t-table is 2.00, the computation shows that t-value is higher that t-table that is 3.27>2.00. The research findings indicate that the students are interested in learning English vocabulary using secret message game. The researcher suggested that the use of media can be an alternative way to teach the language learner, especially to improve the students’ vocabulary. Hopefully this result would motivate to use media in teaching English in the classroom, and the students can improve their vocabulary mastery. en_US
