dc.description.abstract The objectives of the research were to find out the level of the students’ writing skill by using Facebook Group media and to know whether teaching descriptive text was effective or not to improve writing skill by using Facebook Group at the seventh grade students of SMP N 4 Purworejo in the academic year of 2013/2014. This research belonged to an experimental research with an experimental method. This research was carried out on 31st January 2014. The researcher took two groups of the students as the sample using purposive sampling, one as the experimental group consists of 32 students, and the other one as control group consists of 32 students. The data were collected by using essay test. The data were analyzed by t-test. The result of the study showed that after the treatment, there was a difference in the students’ achievement in writing descriptive text between students taught using Facebook Group media and those without using Facebook Group media. Having analyzed the data, the researcher found that the students’ achievement of experimental group was better than that of control group. The result of the research led to the conclusion. The mean of experimental group using Facebook Group was 78.60 categorized as good. The mean of control group without using Facebook Group was 74.00 categorized as sufficient. The final result of t-test analysis was t-value > t-table (2.56 > 1.99). In other words, teaching descriptive text using Facebook Group to improve writing skill at the seventh grade students of SMP N 4 Purworejo was effective. en_US
