Reading is as process of communication between a writer and a reader in the form of the written and printed words. Group Investigation method is one of the cooperative methods which demand the students to learn in group for 4-5 members that are mixed in performance level, gender, race, and ethnicity. The objective of this study is to know whether the Group Investigation method is effective or not to the students‟s reading comprehension at the tenth grade students of SMK N 1 Karanganyar in the academic year 2015/2016.
This research is classified as a quantitative research. The researcher use Quasi Experimental design to conduct the research because it consists of two kinds of samples that do not find randomly. The population of this study is the tenth grade students of SMK N 1 Karanganyar. The writer took two classes as the subject of the study. The classes are, X Accountancy 1 (X AK 1) as experimental class and X Accountancy 2 (X AK 2) as control class. Both of classes consist of 72 students. In this research, the researcher uses purposive sampling.
The result of this study shows that students in experimental class who were taught by using Group Investigation method had better achievement than students in control class who were thaught without using Group Investigation method. The average score of the pre-test of the experimental class was 69.08 and the control class was 64.97. The average score of post-test in the experimental class was 78.64 and the control class was 70.74. The pre-test and post-test score then were calculated to get the t obtained. Based on the computation, both data of pre-test and post-test in the experimental group and control group are normal because Chi Square obtained is lower than Chi Square table. The F obtained of the variances is lower than F table (1.050< 1.760), means that the datas is homogenous. It was found that t obtained is 7.25 and t-table is 1.999. The data shows that t obtained or t-test was higher than t-table. It can be concluded that there was significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. The students in experimental class has higher achievement than in control class after they were thaught by using Group Investigation. The data proves that it is effective to use Group Investigation method in teaching reading comprehension. |
