Abstract:
The aims of this research are to describe the translation problems and to
find out the dominant translation problems faced by the tenth grade students of
SMA N 1 Kutowinangun in the academic year of 2015/2016 in Indonesian-
English translation.
In this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method. The
population of this research is the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Kutowinangun
in the academic year of 2015/2016 that consists of 287 students. The researcher
takes 32 worksheets as sample of this research. The researcher uses human
instrument as the main instrument to analyze the students’ worksheets. To know
the students’ problems, the researcher finds the students’ error first.
As a result, almost all of the students get problems in Indonesian-English
translation. Based on the chart 1, the most frequent problem which students made
is grammar. The highest number of students’ problems is grammar (67.4 %). The
second most problem done by the students is vocabulary (21.4%). The third
problem is incomplete sentence (4.1%). The fourth rank problem is word order
(3.2%). The fifth problem is addition (2.3%). The sixth problem is not transmitted
message (1.6%). In conclusion, the students’ dominant problem is not mastering
grammar.
