Today, there are many teaching methods and media in teaching learning English. We have been known such as role-play, game, suggestopedia, total physical respond, and also many medium can be used in English teaching learning such as picture, comic, flash card, puzzle, realia, etc. Comic is not new thing in students but the use of English comic in their learning is a new inovation. Hoppefully students can be more interesting and the students will get new experience in learning then, they will not feel bored.Therefore, the objective of this research is to find out whether the use of English comic is effective or not in improving students‟ reading comprehension.
The researcher used English comic to improve reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of SMA N 4 Purworejo in Academic year 2012/2013. This research is quasi-experimental design. It is included quantitative research and the data is statistic. In this research, the researcher took 62 students as the sample. For the experimental group, the researcher used class XII IPA 1 which consists of 31 students. Meanwhile, for the control group, the researcher took 31 students of class XII IPA 2. Then, the researcher gave pre-test and post-test to both classes. The researcher taught reading comprehension as the treatment using English comic to experimental group and without treatment to the control group. Then researcher the statistically analyzed the data by using t-test.
After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that improving reading comprehension using English comic is effective. As the fact, the result of t-value is 9,60 based on the 0.05 significant level, the value of t-table is 2.00. The result of computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table, that is 9,60 >2.00. Thus, it can be concluded that the hypothesis the effectiveness of using English comic to improve reading comprehension at eleventh grade students of SMA N 4 Purworejo in the academic year 2012/2013 is effective |
