dc.description.abstract Writing is one of the media of communication. It is a kind of skill that needs much practice. One way to improve writing skill is considered by the media in teaching-learning process. One of the mediato improve writing skill is by using video. The aim of this research is to know whether there is effectiveness of using video as media in teaching writing skill of procedure text to the eleventh grade students of SMK YPE Sawunggalih Kutoarjo in the academic year 2012/2013.The type of the research is experimental research. The population of this research is the eleventh grade students of SMK Sawunggalih Kutoarjo in the academic year 2012/2013. The sample of this research is two classes which are divided into experimental group (XI AP 4, 39 students) and control group (XI AP 3, 39 students). The sampling technique is purposive sampling technique. The researcher uses two variables. The independent variable (X) is the use of video to improve the students’ skill in writing procedure text and the dependent variable (Y) isthe students’ writing skill of procedure text. In this research, the researcher uses pre-test and post-test to get the data. Between pre-test and post-test, the researcher gave treatment by using video. Statistically, the researcher analyzed the data by using t-test separated variance. The result of this research shows that there is effectiveness of teaching writing procedure text using video, since it was found that the result of t-value is 16.440. Based on the 0.05 significance level, the value of t-table is 2.009. The computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table, so it means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The research findings indicate that the students are interested in learning writing procedure text using video as media. en_US
