dc.description.abstract Language is the media to convey our idea, our thought and our feeling. Language is important in communication. Each nation has its own language. One of them is English. English is very important because it is taught from primary up to university. As every language, English also have same linguistic perception. Grammar is included. Grammar is divided into spoken and written form. In the written form, learners will find phrase or clause forming a grammatical unit which has various functions where an apposition can occur. The aim of the study is to analyze the appositive in the short story Clochette by Guy de Maupassant and its contribution in English language teaching. The researcher focuses on appositive found in the short story Clochette by Guy de Maupassant and its contribution in English language teaching. The object of this study was appositive found in the short story Clochette by Guy de Maupassant and its contribution in English language teaching. Source of the data used in this study was short story Clochette by Guy de Maupassant. The researcher used a qualitative type of research to conduct this study and the researcher himself as the key instrument. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research to explain appositive found in the short story. The result of this study showed that the researcher found 60 Englishappositives based on three major combinations in the sentence of the short story Clochette by Guy de Maupassant. There are Full Apposition (15), Partial Apposition (5), Strict Apposition (7), Weak Apposition (13), Nonrestrictive Apposition (10), and Restrictive Apposition (10). Besides the result above, this study also present the contribution of the use of short story in English language teaching. The researcher puts the lesson plan in the chapter five in order to use the short story as media in English language grammar teaching, especially appositive. Finally, the researcher hopes that this thesis will support the learner in learning English grammar and the teacher in teaching English grammar by using written literature. en_US
