Abstract:
This thesis is intended to describe A Correlation Study between Students’
Vocabulary Mastery and Their English-Indonesian Translation Ability of the
Fourth Semester of English Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of
Purworejo in the Academic year 2013/2014. It is aimed to find out whether or not
there is a positive and significant correlation between students’ vocabulary
mastery and their English-Indonesian translation ability.
The population of this research is the fourth semester students of English
Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo in the academic
year 2013/2014. The whole population consists of 217 students. By using
technique of Simple Random Sampling, 54 students were taken as the sample. In
collecting data, the researcher uses documentation as a method. The
documentation of the result tests was used to know the students’ vocabulary
mastery and their english-indonesian translation ability. Furthermore, the data
were analyzed by using Product Moment Formula manually and SPSS 16.0.
The result of this study shows that there is a positive and significant
correlation between the students’ vocabulary mastery and their English-
Indonesian translation ability, since it was found that the result of rxyis 0.605,
while rtable is 0.268. It means that there is a correlation between variable x and
variable y, since rcounted>rtable.The result also shows that the level of significant
correlation is high.Therefore, the researcher’s hyphothesis with 0.95 or 95% of
significance level is accepted and consequently null hyphothesis (Ho) is rejected.
