dc.description.abstract The objective of this research is to find whether the use of English dramatization role-play approach is effective or not to improve the eleventh grade students‘ pronunciation of State Vocational High School 1 Karanganyar in academic year 2012/2013. Role-play is a popular pedagogical activity in communicative language-teaching classes while drama is a powerful language teaching tool that interactively all of the class period. Dramatization role-play approach is a kind of role-play which is inserted values of drama so it can also provide the mean for connecting students‘ emotions and cognition as it enables students to take risk with language and experience the connection between thought and action. The difference between dramatization role-play approach with common role-play is the dramatization role-play approach has a certain narrative story to be played while common role-play usually only has a certain situation to be played with short dialogue. This research was carried on 17th up to 24th May 2013 and it was conducted on 11th grade students of State Vocational High School 1 Karanganyar. The researcher chose Vocational High School students because English teaching-learning in Vocational High School is more focused on developing English speaking than Senior High School student whereas more focused on English reading, and English writing ability. This research includes quantitative research and the design is pre-experimental. The researcher used Purposive sampling as technical sampling of this research and test as a research instrument. This research was divided into three sections, namely: pre-test, treatment and post-test. Considering the hypothesis test of this research, the researcher uses t-test to formulate the data analysis and the result of t-test showed that t-value is higher than t-table (2.19> 2.03). It means that Ha is accepted; thus, it can be concluded that the use of English dramatization role-play approach is effective to improve students‘ pronunciation on the 11th grade students of State Vocational High School 1 Karanganyar. en_US
