Abstract:
The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using
Cooperative Script method in teaching reading narrative text on the eighth
grade students of SMP N 40 Purworejo in the academic year 2015/2016.
This research consists of two variables; independent variable and
dependent variable. The independent variable of this research is teaching reading
narrative text using cooperative script method. Then, the dependent variable is the
students reading comprehension. The population of this research is the eighth
grade students’ of SMP N 40 Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016 with
the total number 155. The sample of this research is 62 students. The technique of
data collection is using test. It was done by giving pre- test and post- test.
Meanwhile, the technique of data analysis is using descriptive analysis and
inferential analysis. The inferential analysis was done by SPSS.
The result of the data analysis shows that mean score of pre-test from
experimental group is 70.32 (good) and of control group is 67.48 (good). Besides,
the mean score of post- test experimental group is 80.00 (excellent), and the mean
score of post- test control group is 74.71 (good). By comparing the mean score of
both groups, it is clear that the mean score of post-test from experimental group is
higher the than the mean score of post-test from control group. The results of tvalue
is 2.341, based on the 0.05 significance level, the value of t- table is 2.000,
the computation shows that t- value is higher than t- table, which is 2.341>2.000.
From that result, it could be concluded that it teaching reading narrative text by
using cooperative script method at the eighth grade students of SMP N 40
Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016 is effective.
