An Analysis of Students’ Motivation to Their Reading Comprehension at Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 1 Prembun in the Academic Year of 2015/2016

dc.description.abstract The aims of this research are: (1) to describe the students’ motivation to their reading comprehension at tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Prembun in the academic year of 2015/2016 and (2) to describe the dominant motivation in reading comprehension had by students at tenth grade of SMA N 1 Prembun in the academic year of 2015/2016. This research design is using descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research is the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Prembun in the academic year of 2015/2016. The researcher takes one class (X MIPA 3) which consists of 34 students. Then, the participants or the sample is 20 students that chose from random system. Ten students are from odd number and ten students are from even number. In collecting data, the researcher uses questionnaire and interview. The result of this research shows that the highest score of the students’ motivation is 82 and the lowest score of the students’ motivation is 53. The mean of the students’ motivation is 66.75 that categorized as good level. All of them have the dominant answer in intrinsic motivation than extrinsic motivation. The intrinsic motivation can arouse them to action, push them, and keep them engaged in reading comprehension activities. Then, the students have the dominant motivation in intrinsic motivation than extrinsic motivation. 18 students or most of students have the dominant answer refers to intrinsic motivation than extrinsic motivation. They get strong motivation from inside that the intrinsic motivation can push them to do reading comprehension activities in order to achieve their goal. In the other hand, 2 students have the dominant answer refers to extrinsic motivation than intrinsic motivation. They have strong motivation from outside. It is from the other people and good learning environment. en_US
