Abstract:
The objective of this study is intended to find out whether or not using Bits
and Pieces Game in Teaching Writing Descriptive Text at the Seventh Grade of
SMP N 40 Purworejo in the Academic year of 2015/2016.
In this research, the researcher would like to find out whether or not the
use of Bits and Piece Game is effective in teaching writing descriptive texts at the
seventh grade of SMP N 40 Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016. The
research design of this study is using quantitative approach while the design of
this research is experimental design. The population of this research is the seventh
grade of SMP N 40 Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016. The total
number of the population is 164 students who are divided into 5 classes. The
researcher took two classes as the sample of the research, class VII A (consist of
32 students) as control class and class VII E (consist of 32 students) as experiment
class by using random sampling technique.
The result of this research shows that the use of Bits and Piece Game is
effective in teaching writing descriptive texts at the seventh grade of SMP N 40
Purworejo in the academic year of 2015/2016. Based on analysis of pre-test and
post-test, it showed that there was significant improvement of students’
achievement. It showed that the mean score in pre-test was 61.06 and the mean
score of post-test was 79.84 for experimental class. While in control class, mean
score of pre-test was 60.31 and mean score of post-test was 69.09. In the
Independent Sample T-Test above shows t-value of post-test value is 6138. Based
on the 0,05 significance level, the value of t table is 1.999. Turns t-value greater
than t-table (6.138>1.999). It proved that, the treatments in research helped
students to achieve result maximally. It also indicates that the use of Bits and
Pieces Game can improve students’ achievement and make them enthusiastic in
learning activity.
