dc.description.abstract Vernacular is dialect of the people perform when the making a pronunciation. People use speech production to produce their sounds and to get the other people can communication what they want. It is mainly to discuss the vernacular and the speech production in their conversation. The researcher uses video conversation as the object of the study because their conversation in this video gets the live dialogue with their friend and we get their dialect from the conversation. The research has objective this study to describe the student of Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo use the vernacular language, especially in the fourth semester. In conducting this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method. The data are utterances used by the conversation in The Discussion and Debate Class. Furthermore, the utterances are analyzed to describe and to explain in detail the phenomena of speech production based on vernacular theory. By conducting this research, the research finds there are 39 utterances performed vernacular language in the discussion and debate class. Kinds of vernacular language there are 3 points. But, it this thesis, the researcher just find one of kind the vernacular language. The researcher just finds vernacular as an unmodified or unstandarized. It can be seen which the researcher gets the vernacular in the pronunciations or broad (medhok). This thesis is just analyze the mispronunciation in vernacular language. From the 39 utterances which have find, the researcher know that almost student still influenced by the first language. There are 24 vernaculars language use this in the session of discussion and 15 vernaculars language use this in the session of debate. The students usually use the first language. The character student can be seen by their speech and habitual when they speak with their first language. They have so many vernacular languages. The researcher expects that the other researchers will be interested in conducting a research about vernacular by taking the other classifications of vernacular such as representative, commisive, or declaration in a film. It is also possible to the other researchers to conduct the same research in the different sources of data. en_US
