dc.description.abstract The objective of the study is to find out whether or not using Teams Games Tournament (TGT) technique is effective in teaching reading of narrative text at the tenth grade of SMK N 2 Kebumen in the academic year of 2015/2016. The type of the study is experimental research with pre-test and post-test equivalent group design. The population of this study is the eighth grade students of SMK N 2 Kebumen in the academic year 2015/2016. The researcher takes 72 students as the sample; they are experimental group and control group. For the experimental group the researcher uses X TGB 1class (Teknik Gambar Bangunan), which consist of 36 students. Meanwhile, as the control group, the researcher takes 36 students of X TAV 1 class (Teknik Audio Video), then the researcher gave pre-test and post-test both classes. The researcher taught narrative text by using Teams games Tournament (TGT) technique to the experimental group. After getting enough the data, the researcher calculated the data using Mann-Whitney u-test. The result of this research shows that teaching reading narrative text using Teams Games Tournament (TGT) technique at the tenth grade students of SMK N 2 Kebumen in the academic year of 2015/2016 is effective. It can be proven by the result of z-value that is 2.153. The critical value on the z-table using 5% (0.05). It shows that z-value is higher than z-table (2.153>1.96). Furthermore, the mean score result of post-test in experimental group is higher than control group (85.00>81.00). Therefore, the researcher’s hypothesis (Ha) with 0.95 or 95% of significance level is accepted and consequently null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected which means that using Teams Games Tournament (TGT) technique in teaching reading narrative text at the tenth grade of SMK N 2 Kebumen in the academic year of 2015/2016 is effective. en_US
