Abstract:
Writing is one of the basic skills that must be mastered by the students,
besides speaking, listening and reading skill. Recount text is a kind of a text which
is used to retell story in the past events. Index card match itself, is a method which
is used to help the students to construct their ideas before starting to write recount
text. The objectives of the study are (1) to know students’ writing ability of
recount text of the tenth grade students of SMA WidyaKutoarjo in the academic
year of 2012/2013 (2) to know the effect of using index card match in improving
students’ writing ability in recount text of the tenth grade students of SMA
WidyaKutoarjo in the academic year of 2012/2013.
This research is held to get the data about students’ writing ability in recount
text of the tenth grade students of SMA WidyaKutoarjo in the academic year of
2012/2013. The first problem is “how is their writing ability in recount text?”. The
second problem is “is there any effect of using index card match to improve the
students’ writing ability in recount text?”. The kind of this research is
experimental research. The subjects of this research are the tenth grade students of
SMA WidyaKutoarjo in the academic year of 2012/2013, they are 30 students.
The instrument used to get the data is writing test. The data analysis techniques
were descriptive and inferential analysis.
The research result shows the data about students writing ability in recount
text of the tenth grade students of SMA WidyaKutoarjo include in the good
category, the mean score of writing recount text is 77.03. The research result also
shows that there is significant effect of using index card match in improving
students’ writing ability, the result of t-value is 5.18. Based on the 0.05 significant
levels, the value of t-table is 2.000. The result shows that t-value is higher than ttable.
Its means that the use index card match to improve students’ writing ability
in recount text is effective.
