English is one of the most important international languages for
communication. In Indonesia, English as a second language and also a foreign
language. In every school in Indonesia are always given an education about the
second language that is English language. By learning English, the student will
teach four important skills, there are listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Many students in Indonesia have difficulties and fell boring in learning English,
especially in learning descriptive text. Therefore, the media used by the teacher
must be appropriate and fun for them. By using profile picture of facebook help
the students in learning descriptive text. Besides, the students will get new
experience in writing descriptive text and they will not feel bored.
The purpose of this research is to find out whether media of profile picture of
facebook is effective or not in teaching descriptive text at tenth grade students of
MA AT-TAQWA Nusawungu Cilacap. In this research the researcher took 40
students as the sample. As the experimental group, the researcher used class X.1
which consists of 20 students. Meanwhile, as the control group, the researcher
took 20 students of class X.2. Then, the researcher gave pre-test and post-test to
both classes. The researcher taught descriptive text by using media profile picture
of facebook to experimental group and common material fron text book to the
control group. The researcher then statistically analyzed the data by using t-test
polled variance.
After analyzing the data, the researcher concludes that teaching writing
descriptive text using profile picture of facebook is effective. As the fact, the
result of t-value is 4.219 based on the 0.05 significant level, the value of t-table is
2.021. The result of computation shows that t-value is higher than t-table, that is
4.219>2.021. So, it can be stated that the hypothesis “the use of profile picture of
facebook for teaching writing descriptive text at tenth grade students of MA ATTAWA
Nusawungu Cilacap in the academic year 2012/2013 is effective” is
accepted. |
