dc.description.abstract Reading is a kind of activity to comprehend the writer’s ideas or the way the writer communicates with readers by way of the written or printed words. In this case, Students’ active participation in reading comprehension must be improved. Sometimes, even ‘‘smart’’ students do not always develop productive work habits, while students with lower achievement often do. interpretation of student behavior is difficult, participation often depends on a student’s personality. Based on the facts, the researcher is very interested to take this topis. The problems of this study are: (1) How high is the students’ active participation in reading at the eleventh grade students of MA At-Taqwa Nusawungu in the academic year 2012/2013? (2) Is there any significant difference between students who have active participation and who have not in reading at the eleventh grade students of MA At-Taqwa Nusawungu in academic year 2012/2013? The objective of this study are: (1) To know the students’ active participation in reading at the eleventh grade students of MA At-Taqwa Nusawungu in the academic year 2012/2013. (2) To find out whether there is significant difference between students who have active participation and who have not in reading at the eleventh grade students at MA At-Taqwa Nusawungu in academic year 2012/2013. The population in this study is the eleventh grade students of MA At-Taqwa Nusawungu.The sample in this research is 60 students. In collecting the data, the researcher uses test. The researcher uses questionnaire and post-test. Questionnaire consists 15 items. From the questionnaire, there are 25 students that is students’ active and 35 students that is students’ inactive. Post-test consits 30 items that is multiple choice. Furthermore, the researcher uses t-test in analyzing the data. the t-test result is 7.004. The result of this study shows that comparion between student who are active and who are not in reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of MA At-Taqwa Nusawungu in academic year 2012/2013, It can be seen from the result of the t-test is higher than the t-table (7.004>1.671). It means that there is any significant difference between students who have active participation and who have not in reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of MA At-Taqwa Nusawungu in academic year 2012/2013. en_US
